If you ever took revenge on a job or know about someone who did, you might want to tell the story here. Don’t worry, this one remains anonymous, so no one will know who wrote it. Just for fun here’s one I know all about from many years in the construction business.
didnt finish my deck
In the early eighties, a general contractor, well known to be a stiff, hired a carpenter, well known to be a terrific stair cutter, to do two jobs. On the first job, the stair guy cut twelve sets of stairs and was paid for the work per agreement. On the second job, the cutter cut three difficult sets, called for the general contractor to approve the stairs and to bring a check.
The general showed up, approved the stairs, and threw the cutter off the site, telling the superintendent not to let the cutter back in the gate. Then, the general swore at the cutter, saying the stairs were his bonus for hiring the cutter in the first place. He said he would call the police if the cutter dared to come back. “File a lien, schmuck,” was his parting line as the general jumped into his Mercedes and drove away.
The super felt bad, but he wouldn’t let the cutter back onto the property. When quitting time came, the super walked past the cutter’s truck, stopped and looked at his watch. He mumbled, “I wonder if I locked that gate,” then he shrugged and walked away.
The stairs were nailed, glued, and placed. The next morning, the wood was still there, but it was chain-sawed into nothing but two inch by two inch strips.
The general called the cutter, screaming about vandalism, and the cutter merely answered “Wood’s still there, just different. A cutter cuts.”
